Palmerston North Hospital LA2

The LA2 building at the Palmerston North Hospital houses the new Linear Accelerator, used for treating cancer patients. The specialist machine commands special design requirements, which feature prominently in the building. A project that could be considered heavily industrial, the main element was concrete, with a few finishing touches that can be seen in the images.

The building contains concrete piles (driven and in situ), a concrete basement, concrete walls & parapet (with a maximum thickness of 2300mm), concrete first floor, and a concrete roof, all of which were poured in situ. All of the above molded into a hugely complex project with man moving parts that was successfully handed over and operating on schedule.
